The aim of this WebQuest is to:

  • Build interest and knowledge about recycling, encouraging students to think about why recycling has become necessary in our society.
  • Encourage teamwork by brainstorming and designing a recycling system in groups.
  • Create, implement and experiment with a recycling system; documenting the steps along the way using technology such as cameras and video cameras.
  • Prepare a presentation to inform the rest of the class/school about a chosen area of recycling.

Part 1:Tasks.jpg

Research the issues relating to recycling and create a mind map about the topic and a reflective journal entry.
Explore the environmental issues of waste and pollution, and the different forms of recycling that can be used
to address these issues. With help from the teacher, form a group of four. Your group will choose one area of recycling: paper, water, or compost (food waste). Each group will explore a task relating to that area of recycling.

Part 2:

Conduct research on the recycling system that has been allocated to your group, then brainstorm as a group and design a sample recycling system. Document each step involved in designing your recycling system using a camera (provided by the teacher). Each group member will be allocated a role to take into Part 3.

Part 3:

Create, implement, and experiment with your recycling system. Your group will create the system using materials that have already been provided, and document your work using different forms of media, such as a documentary or interview/report.

Part 4:

As a group: Rehearse for a visual presentation of your work from Part 2 and 3, then present it to the class or during school assembly (i.e. Environmental awareness week):
You will discuss the visual presentation of work from Part 2 and 3, and answer any questions from the audience.
